Hi. Thank you for dropping by my webpage. My name is Matt Wisbey.
My first venture into the world of professional entertainment came at 12 years old. A local disco roadshow found themselves double booked and without a DJ. I knew the roadshow owner and had a keen interest in music, so suddenly I found myself on a stage at a local social club. Behind old school flashing boxlights, armed only with half the DJs collection of records and my own measly collection of vinyl. Think early Kylie, a Tiffany album, a few of those "Top of the Pops" albums, some donated ex-jukebox records and The Chicken Song. It was a steep learning curve, but I was hooked.
By my teens karaoke had swept the UK. As soon as I looked old enough to order a pint, I was either out clubbing or at a karaoke. I had always been in choirs at school and felt i had a good voice but had dreams of being a pop star. By 18 I was working a karaoke in a local public house but wanted to do more. It was then I became a Butlins recoat. Every night was an opportunity to sing, dance, DJ, compere and entertain. More importantly every night was an opportunity to watch seasoned professional acts perform. Opportunities to learn how things work both technically and on stage. I learned illusions and bought my own linking rings, guilitine and few other card and coin "tricks". I juggled and learned circus skills. I completed seasons with both Butlins and Haven. As one of their traditional stripy "Havenmates".
It was while working at Haven that I was introduced to John Rosbotham. A Stalwart of the East Anglian music scene for many years. John had a duo called Stepback and his vocalist was leaving for other projects. Stepback were an established and very popular act within East Anglia with a full diary. It was big shoes to fill as a young vocalist but john and I just clicked. For four years we worked solidly around East Anglia. I had a fantastic time with Stepback but still wanted to do more. A possiblity arose where I could tour the UK in theatres as a tribute act. It was then I developed an act called "Ronan", it was a tribute to Ronan Keating. For two years I toured theatres all over the UK as far north as Eden Court in Inverness and Hall for Cornwall in Truro in the south. The act recieved good revues and also regularly took me all over europe. 2002 to 2003 I worked as a Production Manager aboard MV Oriana for P&O cruises. Again privileged to see more beautful places in the world. On ship I was responsible for a theatre production running smoothly and DJ'd in the onboard nightclub on the resident DJ's nights off.
Upon disembarking the cruise ships in 2003, I set up an Entertainment Production company in Whitby, North Yorkshire. We provided PA systems, Lighting, Discos, Karaokes and Recording Studio alongside my own vocal appearances. However in 2007 iI returned to Easy Anglia. I joined a Comedy Trio called "Jokerz Wild". It was my first venture in to pure comedy but I loved every minute. I worked alongside Bernie Innes. He started in entertainment before I was born and had worked solidly. Clubland, comedy, old school holiday park enterainment and much more inbetween. Bernie already had the T shirt. It was a pleasure and also taught me a lot working alongside him. We never had a dull moment on tour. Many miles and many stages and many more laughs both on and off stage. Bernie is now happily off playing golf. Until the end of 2012 we toured the UK with Jokerz Wild alongside my solo vocal appearances across the country.
With the arrival of 2013, I decided to take a hiatus from the entertainment world and concentrate on raising my family. I have loved every minute of parenthood but as my children get older, I have more time for me. I love standing infront of a crowd with the task of entertaining them. It's great to sing my head off in the kitchen while im washing up, or dance around like a loon when im hoovering the house, or even crack a few jokes when chatting to friends, but it doesnt replace the feeling of making a big crowd of people enjoy themselves. I can sing. I can crack a joke on stage. I can present. I can get a crowd going. I can keep going when it all falls down behind me. I have entertained through power cuts, on ships in force ten storms. I have sung to thousands of people and also sung to a near empty pub on the yorkshire moors in the middle of winter. I've appeared on TV, on radio, in magazines. Entertainment is what I do, it's in my blood and above all, Its all really good fun. So I am going to do it all again.
In early 2022 while performing at a charity event I was introduced to radio presenting. I present Drive-Time 5 days a week on GenX Radio, broadcasting throughout the whole of Suffolk on DAB and online worldwide at GenxRadio.co.uk. Join me every weekday from 4pm to 7pm.
So I am back! Whatever your event or venue. I can provide what you need. A big event like opening for Ed Sheeran at wembley or a Las Vegas residency or small local public house and anyhting in between. Weddings, partys and celebrations. Hotels, holiday parks and outdoor events. Get in touch and lets make things happen.
See you soon!
